What We've Done
Below are a few examples of the work we've done:
>> Conducted shorebird surveys as part of a multi-year shorebird monitoring program in conjunction with Biological Conservation, the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to assist in the development of adaptive management/conservation strategies that promote and protect intertidal communities.
>> Identified and mapped Significant Wildlife Habitat, including deer wintering areas, wetlands, and waterfowl and wading bird habitat in over 40 towns in southern and central Maine.
>> Developed draft procedures for identifying and evaluating Significant Wildlife Habitats including shorebird roosting and feeding areas and select endangered species habitats.
>> Prepared a draft Oil Spill Response Plan for wildlife in the State of Maine.
>> Identified and delineated natural resources subject to local state, and Federal regulations and assisted in preparing permit applications for various state and private utilities.
>> Using remote and field techniques, delineated and evaluated functions of all wetlands for an entire municipality, rating each wetland with a computer model developed for the project.
>> Conducted inspections of over 450 permitted sites in all coastal towns in Maine to determine rate of compliance with, and efficacy of, the Natural Resources Protection Act, and Permit-by-Rule program.
